Inspired by the voice of

Bella Abzug

When I was in middle and high school, I thought I would be an artist in one form or another. Art for me was a form of expression, and years later as an adult, I would realize that my music playing, writing, and drawing were gifts of therapy sessions I gave to myself to cope with and process loss of family, a country, and culture.

A Voice of Inspiration

Bella Abzug

Bella Abzug, in her classic red suit and flamboyant hat, was the first speaker I heard when I was a freshman in college. I walked away in awe and dumbstruck. This was the first time I realized that we had the power to embrace an identity, and that an identity could be power to be activated for positive change in our society.

Shared Voices

AWM serves as my window to the broader media profession and allows me to learn and meet inspirational female media makers of many diverse backgrounds.
