As a young woman, I was more focused on the journey to success than reaching a specific goal. I studied commercial art and marketing and set my sights on a career in advertising. My personal mission was to “work as hard (and smart) as I could and see how far I could go.”
A Voice of Inspiration

I never met Mary Tyler Moore, but her character, Mary Richards, inspired me. The Mary Tyler Moore Show premiered in 1970 and concluded in 1977, the year I graduated high school. Already interested in advertising, media and marketing, Mary Richards inspired me to be independent, bold and true to my values while pursuing my career as a single woman. My experience with this television character is a testament to the power and influence of media.
The AWM mission is to connect, recognize and inspire women across the media industry. This is essential work at a critical time in our culture and industry, and I am honored to be a member of this board of change agents.
